When dealing with carotid sheath entrapment of the vagus nerve, there are numerous sources of compression. One is the sternocleidomastoid muscle. It can become hyperactive if the spinal accessory nerve becomes entrapped and/or the cervical spine is unstable/weak. There are numerous methods to release/detone the SCM, but these are the safest and most effective self-administered ones.
